Donna Eade:

You're listening to the Mindset in Action podcast, the place to be to grow and streamline your business. I'm your host, Donna Eade. Let's jump into the show. Welcome back to the podcast, everybody. For another mini Mindset Monday episode. Viv is back in the house. Welcome, Viv.

Donna Eade:

Hello, and today we are going to be talking about time management. This is one that I like to think of myself as a good planner and a good person when it comes to time management, but I myself struggle with this. One, which is why it is one of the core pillars of my podcast, is productivity and planning, because it's something that I'm always working on, Viv. I've been seeing a lot on my YouTube feed recently people talking about productivity not being something because you're lazy, but actually being a result of trauma, and I know that obviously you do a lot of mindset work and talking about childhood trauma and things like that. So it really was something that I kind of wanted to draw attention to the fact that if you're struggling with your time management, it isn't necessarily because you're just bad at time management. There could be a lot behind that. So I'm going to let you take over and talk to us about our time management and how we can, how we can get better at that with our minds.

Vivienne Joy:

Yeah, this is the subject, isn't it? I mean this is you know, I want more hours in the day. There's not enough hours in the day. I'm too busy, I'm too stressed, I'm too rushed. I hear this all the time.

Vivienne Joy:

So the basis of time management comes from. It comes from promising too much. If we over promise and we under deliver, we get stressed about it because we want to be best, we want to be seen as being brilliant. So what happens is people have expectations that are way too high on themselves for time management. Like I look at some of my life and if I was to tell people what I did in a day, they would probably pass out with like overwhelm. But for me it's my normal. But then if I put more into the mix it gets more stressful. And why do we do this? Because we can't say no quite a lot of the time. So we don't like to say no because then we're selfish, self-absorbed, or or people don't like us, like one of our number one. Most people's number one is to be liked.

Vivienne Joy:

But also there's all sorts of neuro-spicy conditions out there which have time sensitivity attached to them, and there definitely is stuff around trauma and time. But the way I look at trauma and time is around value and self-worth and time. But the way I look at trauma and time is around value and self-worth. So, um, most people are thinking about themselves from other people's perspectives. They're not thinking about what they really need. So we could plan a diary and we do. The default diary is a real thing. I've planned thousands of them in my time for myself and other people, and I know myself as um, as a self-diagnosed ADHD person, uh, that I can put a beautiful default diary default diary in with all the things I think should go in there, and then I put it in a drawer and forget all about it, and I'm sure there's lots of people out there doing the same. What it really means is, my brain knows I need to do all those things, but the rest of me isn't really connected or even compulsed to do those things.

Vivienne Joy:

Like, if something's really valuable, we do it, if it's not, we simply don't. So this time management means value management. So I suggest you think of it in a different way, because if it's valuable like you never don't pick the kids up to school or brush your teeth or go to bed like these are really valuable parts of our life. You know, podcasting is a really big deal for you, not so much for me. If I miss two or three episodes in a podcast in two or three months, I don't really care. Nobody ever says to me where were you, whereas actually for you it's your business. Therefore, it's the most important thing. It's high value If they're structured in. Even come hell or high water, you are going to do it.

Vivienne Joy:

So the trick with time management is value management and call it that what is valuable for me in my time, in my day, in my week, what is most valuable and people don't typically start from their outcome, they start from the shit they've got to get done. So it's not a case of the value is oh, I need to build my business, I need two more clients this week, let's say it. Say it's oh, I've got to fill in the tax return, I've got to get that email over to so-and-so because they asked me for it. Oh, I've got to take the kids here, I've got to go shopping. So actually we're not looking at our goals, um, with regards to time management, we're looking at the stuff that is well, not it's. It's important, but it's got the most urgency to us because somebody else is relying on us, whereas actually, when it's a value based thing, it's for us, for our future, and future based stuff doesn't have as much value as now because now is happening now. So the way that I do time management with clients is to help them think about their, visualize their future self, and I do a lot of this work and do more of it come December, because their future self values things that we don't value right now, like your future self, who has I don't know 20,000 podcast viewers I don't know how many you have.

Vivienne Joy:

She has a very different way of thinking about her time and her skills and her tasks than the one sitting here in front of me. So this way we can avoid avoidance. We can avoid lack of productivity in the right areas, because we can be really busy, but busy and doing nothing can't we? I don't know about you, but I can sit at my desk for two hours. I think I'm working. I've checked facebook 28 times. I'll probably put an instagram post out. I've checked my emails 12 times because they've buzzed. I've not really done anything in those two hours um so realistically.

Vivienne Joy:

It's not really about how it's not being about productive. It's productive about the right things to get in the right levels of productivity. So that's what I say on it, really, and if it is time sensitive, leave some space into the diary as well. So the first thing is it's a bit like when I plan my diary. My diary is all planned out 2025, by the way, completely Natalie with the products I'm going to launch, with the sessions I'm holding, with holidays. I'm having everything.

Vivienne Joy:

So start with the sessions I'm holding with holidays. I'm having everything. So start with the most important thing, which is me, my holidays, my time, and I block that out. And then I start with what's important for the business. So I'll go into the values of what I want to achieve for the business, how many people I want to serve, how I want to do it, and I'll plan my diary and then everything else sits in there the actions to achieve those goals. So people don't think about goals when they're looking at time management. They look at productivity, they look at getting shit done, but actually the goals are the most important thing. Otherwise you're a busy fool, who's not?

Donna Eade:

feeling very successful. Yeah, I hear you Answer the question. It does indeed. It does indeed Brilliant. Thank you very much for that. So, viv, you just mentioned something's happening in December, and we are at the end of November now, so can we, can we have a sneak peek at what's happening in December?

Vivienne Joy:

you can. So, um, my mission is to get everybody working from their future self, because the future self has got loads of, like I was just saying, has got loads and loads of ideas she knows best, or he knows best whoever's listening. And so I'm running something called five to thrive. Um, it's a short program, very affordable it's 25 quid, trying to make these things affordable it's delivered to your inbox and it's basically five minutes a day and I'll teach you the five ways to get yourself into your future self, to live your life daily. So that includes time management and everything we talk about really mindset, having communications, relationships, how we build our business, how we dress, even every part of us living from our future self, because otherwise we live from past versions and those past versions are typically not what we want anymore. Otherwise they would be now versions. So that's the long and short of the program. So thank you for asking and you are welcome to join.

Donna Eade:
